Leah Burton Promoted to Editor

We’re excited to kick off 2024 with the promotion of award-winning editor Leah Burton to our roster of talent. Born in Belfast and raised mostly in Australia, Leah returned to the UK in 2012 to study film and, soon after, got a start in post-production as a runner at the Fitzrovia-based edit house. Leah absorbed all she could about the craft while assisting editors Joe Guest and Amanda James, putting that experience to work on her own projects across short films, music videos, and branded content.

Leah’s enthusiasm for collaboration and her passion for the craft has seen her develop a body of work both exciting and diverse. Her skills have grabbed the attention of multiple awards juries; in 2022, she was nominated for Best Editing at British Arrows’ inaugural Young Arrows Awards and, more recently, was named Best New Editor at the Kinsale Shark Awards.

Leah’s commercial clients include British Airways, Dr. Martens, Concern Worldwide, Formula 1, and On Running. Christmas 2023 saw Leah cut a number of social films for John Lewis’ celebrated festive campaign, working with director Hugh Mulhern. In the world of music videos, she has worked with artists such as Maverick Sabre, Olivia Dean, and Maisie Peters.

I’m so excited to be joining a group of editors that are not only some of the world’s most talented,” says Leah, “but also the loveliest and most supportive bunch of people. Final Cut has been such a family to me. Taking this next step in my career, I couldn’t ask for a nicer home.”

Final Cut Executive Producer Michelle Corney says, “It’s always such an exciting time to promote homegrown talent to the roster. Leah has a fresh & expressive style and is extremely dedicated to the craft. She’s also an absolute joy to be around! Can’t wait to see what this next chapter in her editing career brings.”

“It’s always sad to lose a bloody good assistant (and drinking partner),” says Final Cut editor and partner Joe Guest, “but it’s been a privilege to Mr. Miyagi Leah into becoming an award-winning editor in her own right. My only regret is not improving her sneaker game…”
